The work of the Hong Kong-based artist Trevor Yeung (born in Guangdong in 1988) aims to address interpersonal relationship and that between the artwork and its viewer, through the use of varied mediums, from natural objects (such as plants, fish, etc.) to photography and installation. Showcased by Blindspot Gallery at the Discoveries sector, his solo show “Garden Cruising: It's Not That Easy Being Green,” is composed of a selection of photographs from the series of Sleepy Bed (2010-present) and the most recent Enigma (2015). In the Enigma series, the artist intends to trigger the viewer's interaction with the artwork through the use of organic object, while the ongoing Sleepy Bed project plays on different levels of voyeurism, and the blurred boundary between intimacy and strangeness, privacy and public-ness. The project consists of photographing, as dawn breaks, men who share the bedroom with the artist at different hostels around the world, while they are still sound asleep. Through the act of photographing and later, the engravings of abstract forms on the photographs of these bodies, the artist seems to build a rather sensual and intimate relationship with the photographed, who are ironically outright strangers. Looking at the portraits of these men sleeping in bed, a private moment and matter captured by the artist's camera, the viewer is somewhat transformed into a voyeur and the artist's accomplice, intruding into a stranger's privacy.
