They are sitting on bleachers from top to bottom, facing the camera, but it's pretty hard to see them. Instead of their face, appears a halo of intense light. Poklong Anading asked

to people he met in the streets to gather and to hold a circular mirror reflecting the sun light toward his camera. The Filipino artist started this series called Anonymity in 2004. The first in the series, Counter Acts (2004), was acquired for the Guggenheim Collection thanks to the Guggenheim UBS MAP Purchase Fund in 2012. In Art Basel Hong Kong's Insight sector, Anading shows a selection of works from this series on Manila's gallery 1335Mabini's booth. In these photos the artist reveals the part of anonymity in every individual, even if every one brings his own light to the world. The choice of black & white photography gives to these images a timeless dimension. In 2009, Anading did a project related to Honk Kong, a tribute to his mother who was a domestic worker there. In this video entitled Ocular, the artist came back to the places his mother shot with her camera in the city, dealing with another kind of disappearance.
