George Osodi’s colourful photographic series of Nigeria’s monarchs immerses us in an offbeat universe where tradition resists the advances of modernity. The latter does however manage to intrude into these portraits by means of anachronistic seeming accessories that bring a touch of undoubtedly unintentional humour. These photos unexpectedly reveal the contradictions present in countries such as Nigeria that are undergoing a period of transformation.
