Art Basel Miami Beach is a must-see event to feel the New World excesses, with its 277 galleries (and the vast array of satellite fairs, exhibitions... and parties), but also to feel the pulse of the world's leading art market, at a time of growing conflict. The major New York sales in November were a success but we need to be constantly on the lookout for signals, both strong and weak. All the more so as the fair itself is going through a crucial period. After 15 years at the helm, Mark Spiegler has handed over the reins to Vincenzo de Bellis, Art Basel's Director of Fairs and Exhibition Platforms, for this edition before Bridget Finn makes her mark from 2024 onwards. Given the success of its little sister on the banks of the Seine (Paris+, which will be moving to the magnificent setting of the Grand Palais in 2024), Art Basel Miami Beach will be keen to confirm that, since 2002, it has not only been an unexpected success story facing the ocean, but also a major crossroads for experimentation and diversity.
