Édito : The rule of four

When can you assess that a fair is strongly grounded? Art Antwerp was born during the Covid years as an offspring of Art Brussels (which couldn’t take place in 2021) and we thought it would just be a pop-up fair. But it must have met a need as we attend it for the fourth year running! More than ever, fairs are a crucial element of the art market and it's only logical that Antwerp, one of the most dynamic artistic and collector scenes in Europe, should now have its own. Apart from addressing the problem of carbon footprint by limiting travels, regional fairs (which is not a pejorative word) bring to light a local audience. But that’s not all: by attracting interest from abroad, Art Antwerp, which will approach this year an attendance of 14,000, also gives an additional leverage to a bustling community that has never stopped being on the forefront, from Rubens and Jordaens to Panamarenko and Francis Alÿs.
