Christie’s: Italian art in the forefront
Due to Brexit-induced changes, although usually held in London, the sale of contemporary Italian art now takes place in Paris. It includes a masterful Concetto spaziale (1960) by Lucio Fontana (around €11 million), belonging to the second cycle of the buchi (holes) series; Cretto (1977), an iconic work by Alberto Burri from the eponymous series (€3.5 million); and a splendid Mappa with a rare pink background by Alighero Boetti (€2 million), offered for the first time in the market.

Sotheby’s: Francis Bacon in Paris
Francis Bacon (1909-1992) lived in France for nearly 20 years where he greatly developed his artistic practice. For the 30th anniversary of his death, a tribute sale of some 20 sets is dedicated to him, including a modernist wool rug from 1929 (est. 100,000), a 1949 painting, Figure Crouching (€3.5 million), a plate that served as a palette from his Parisian studio apartment in the Marais (€30,000) or photographs signed by Peter Beard, Cecil Beaton, André Ostier… All come from the private collection of Majid Boustany, a Lebanese-born Swiss businessman and Bacon worshipper, for the benefit of the…
