Parisian gallery Chantal Crousel presents Quonset Tent (2016) by the American artist Oscar Tuazon. This aluminium and glass, greenhouse-like structure with wooden interior elements measures 6 metres by 4 and is 2.3 metres high. The central motifs of Oscar Tuazon’s work are the theme of shelter and the relationship between the body and architecture, whilst a further source of inspiration comes from the notion of resistance between different materials. Quonset Tent mimics the shape of prefab huts made for the American army during World War II, which were designed around a simple semi-cylindrical shape with mass-produced modules. These huts were used for a variety of purposes before being recycled – more often than not as spare parts. According to the artist, this work was designed as “a modular system that suggests different scenarios and interpretations, a ephemeral habitat and a temporary place to sleep”.
